Congratulations on your new baby!
Before your session
Make sure to have a relaxed morning with your babe and do your best to keep them awake before your session. If they fall asleep in the car on your way to the session that it totally fine. Dress your baby in lose, comfortable clothing with zippers or buttons. Outfits that have to be slipped over the head are not recommended as when they come off, most babies become upset. Right before you are ready to leave, feed your baby long and relaxed. A full baby is a happy baby.
Please dress in cool clothing yourself as the studio will be very warm. Also bring a water bottle for yourself as it can be a long time in a warm space so it's pretty much guaranteed you'll get thirsty. I know I do!
The session can last anywhere from 1-3 hours. If you have a baby that sleeps the whole time, obviously the shoot will be shorter. If your baby gets hungry or upset the shoot will last longer. Please be willing to nurse or bottle feed to get them to go back to sleep. I also recommend that your bring a pacifier; bring one even if you don't normally use one, it is helpful to get baby back to sleep for the session. Sometimes it gives me just enough time to get a few quick shots.
What to wear
Don't think that Mom & Dad will be sitting on the sidelines! Even though your baby is the star of the show, you will be in many of the photos too! You will never have this time back with your baby and I want to be able to freeze this moment in time for you.
Dads, please wear a nice fitting shirt. No bold colors or prints look best. Think black, grey, white, tan... I don't recommend logos or prints unless it is something you want to incorporate into the session.
Moms, keep it simple. A neutral color and simple design looks best. Black is usually the color of choice but it is up to you! Now is the time to treat yourself! Your hands will be in many of the photos so nicely manicured nails is recommended. Leave baby with dad and get your hair and makeup done! Celebrate this time as a new mommy!
Siblings are welcome for all newborn sessions. Keep their outfits simple. No patterns or logos is recommended.
If you are unsure of what to wear, bring a couple options and I can advise you as to what I think will look best. Most importantly, I want you to feel comfortable.
Thank you for allowing me to share in this intimate moment in time with your family. :)
